01The premise

Most people own a bag for work, another for travel, and a third for the weekend. None of them does all three well.

Marche Ave Berlin began at an airport, with a simple observation: the bag that suited the journey did not suit the meeting waiting at the end of it. One was too casual, one too formal, and neither carried a weekend.

The Transformable Weekender is the answer to that. A single piece of leather, engineered to change form as the day requires — duffel to backpack, boardroom to platform, without a change of bag or a change of register.

02Configurations

One bag, carried three ways.

The straps stow, the handles fold and the silhouette changes with them. Nothing is removed and left behind in a hotel room.

01

Backpack

A padded back panel and adjustable leather shoulder straps take the weight off stations, stairs and the long walk to the gate.

02

Handbag

Rolled leather top handles, reinforced at the anchor points, for the office, the lounge and the room you walk into afterwards.

03

Shoulder bag

A detachable, adjustable shoulder strap with a leather pad for everything that falls between the two.

03Capacity

Forty litres, properly organised.

A long weekend, a laptop and a pair of shoes — with the shoes kept in their own compartment, away from everything else.

04Specification

Considered at every seam.

Every component was chosen for how it behaves in the tenth year, not the first week.

Vegetable-tanned leather darkens and softens with use. Each bag carries the grain of the hide it came from, so no two are identical.

05Finishes

Three signature colours.

Each finish is drawn from the same vegetable tan and will age on its own terms.

Whisky

A warm, rich amber. The most open of the three finishes, and the one that shows the patina of a vegetable tan most clearly as it ages.

06Craft

Two years, from sketch to hide.

Pattern pieces for the weekender laid out on a digital cutting tableA craftsman working a tanned hide by hand at the bench

Every bag begins as a hand-drawn sketch.

From the first lines on paper through to detailed 3D development, every proportion, seam and function was drawn, argued over and drawn again. Prototypes were carried, loaded and worn in before anything was committed to production.

Patterns are cut to tolerance on a digital table; the leather is then worked by hand by craftsmen with decades at the bench. It is a slower way to build a bag, and the only one that produces this one.

07The founders

A designer and an engineer.

The weekender in Cognac opened on a table, a leather portfolio being placed inside

Fatima was the one sitting at the airport. Robin drew the first sketches the week after.

Her background is fashion design — proportion, material, the way a thing sits on a body. His is engineering and technical drawing — load paths, tolerances, and whether a strap will still hold in year eight. The bag exists in the overlap.

Berlin shaped the rest. A city where a tannery and a design studio sit on the same street tends to produce objects that answer to both.

08Made responsibly

Slow fashion is mostly a matter of arithmetic.

Fewer bags, made better, kept longer. The rest follows from that.

Vegetable tanning

Tanned with plant matter rather than the harsh chemicals used in conventional processes — slower, and better for the people doing the work.

Selected partners

Manufacturing partners chosen for fair labour practices, consistent quality standards and responsible working conditions.

Built to last

Durability is the strategy. A bag that survives a decade of use is a bag that never needed replacing.

Fewer, better

One bag doing the work of three means less material bought, less produced and less discarded.
